In an oral judgement, the UK High Court ruled that Twitter has until mid-January to reveal who is behind two accounts parodying British pub chain, JD Wetherspoon. The social network did not challenge JD Wetherspoon’s application, or the court order itself. While some may see this as creating a precedent against internet privacy, the case was motivated by potential defamation caused by the parody accounts. Why is Twitter Being Forced to Do This?...

The Portland, Maine-based company, announced that it has acquired Roadrunner Pharmacy and Atlas Pharmaceuticals, both Phoenix-based companies that operate as compounding pharmacies. Vets First Choice is not releasing financial details of the transactions. (Technically, it’s Direct Vet Marketing doing the acquiring, as Vets First Choice is simply a dba, but I often use the Vets First Choice moniker to avoid confusion.) Vets First Choice, which recently closed a $223 million round of equity fundraising, said the acquisitions “are part of a global initiative to professionalize prescription management services for veterinary practices,” according to the company press release....

In a very interesting analysis, Lefkowitz points out that books .com, shoes .com, and even search .com are rarely used and barely known. It’s the brand that dominates these spaces that matters. Simply owning a TLD, or Top Level Domain, is about the same as owning an undeveloped piece of property. SXSW Startup Village Located on the fourth floor of the Downtown Austin Hilton, this is where a lot of the startup action takes place. You’ll find panels, meetups, lounges, pitches, and mentoring. As such, Connecticut Innovations last week launched a $5 million investment challenge for organizations in the digital health and financial tech (Fintech) space. Dubbed VentureClash, the global challenge will focus on bringing early-stage companies to Connecticut. The top award from the challenge will result in a $1.5 million investment and a grant of up to $100,000. The second top award will receive a $1 million investment and a grant of up to $100,000; and the third top award, which will be awarded to four startups, will receive an investment of $500,000 and grants of up to $50,000....
