People loved sending letters and postcards, especially since they were the best means to keep in touch with their loved ones or carry out business affairs. Sadly, the current advent of technology has put snail mail in a more secondary position. Now, a fairly new service is trying to bring handwritten postcards to the spotlight again: meet Felt. Developed exclusively for iOS (with the Android version coming soon), Felt aims to get the best of two worlds, by joining the power of technology with the great feeling of sending and receiving a handwritten postcard. Within the app, users write a message in their own penmanship and attach it to a squared picture that can be taken from the user’s own gallery or chosen from the many original card designs available in the app.
Postcards are then sent to a brick-and-mortar print shop, where they are printed on premium Mohawk paper and sealed in Felt’s custom square envelope, where users can also write the addresses by hand (through the app). A fancy looking stamp is then added which, along with the ink that looks very real, makes the whole thing seem really put together by the person sending it. The price for the whole process is $3, with each additional picture costing $1 if users opt for an accordion postcard, which can take up to four photos and is a custom design from Felt. People at Felt do their best to put all postcards in the mail within 24 hours and, using US Postal Service’s First Class Mail, which most often delivers within two to five business days. Another very useful feature in this app is that all orders made by a user are automatically saved to a personal gallery, making it easy to re-order any postcard.
