Originally, iOS update 14.7 (which released mid-July) was an update that allowed iPhones to connect to MagSafe battery packs. However, this update came with an unintended security exploit that Apple is now fixing. While the implications of this security issue weren’t specifically spelled out by Apple, the issue wasn’t major enough for any large investigations or inquisitions. Still, users should make sure to update their devices at their earliest convenience. However, the security fixes are simply described as “security” fixes, with Apple classically claiming “For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available.” So, we’re somewhat in the dark here, but we do know that Apple wouldn’t go out of its way to resolve an issue if there were no implications for the user. There are security updates within the update that fix issues that, in some isolated instances, have already been exploited. As Apple often does, they have yet to comment on the specifics of these security issues, as perhaps they don’t want to give people ideas, but this patch does claim to fix security issues. All in all, Apple users should update their phones as soon as possible in order to avoid being hacked or exploited by cyber criminals. To update your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
